Blackacre

Jaime and Matthew found this rare breed by chance in 2009. Our border collie had passed, and Matthew took some silly “what dog is right for you” test on the internet. The game was dumb and suggested about 100 breeds including Great
Danes and Chihuahuas as recommended pets. But among the listed dogs was the Hovawart. With North
America’s oldest, continuous Hovawart breeding kennel just north of us in Quebec, learning about and falling for the
breed was easy.
Leda de Lavillaroy joined us in August 2010, and we attended our first Hovawart Club of North America event shortly thereafter. We found in Leda a great, independent, and loyal family member. In the HCNA we found a wonderful community devoted to promotion and protection of this great breed.
Both Matthew and Jaime have volunteered for the club for years, and Matthew has served as the club's president since 2015. He is also the club's delegate to the International Hovawart Federation and serves as the federation's deputy secretary.
Unfortunately, Leda never had a litter, but we knew we wanted to add to our family and use the opportunity to, hopefully, add to the Hovawart community. In December 2019, we traveled to Tullnerbach, Austria outside Vienna for our newest dog. Käthe vom Tullnerbach comes from a long line of successful Hovawarts. In fact, some of her siblings have achieved national champion status in their native Austria. We are raising these dogs in Northern New York on Lake Champlain. Ours is one of the few HCNA approved kennels in the United States, and we are happy to promote the breed nationwide. We will have puppies placed from New England to Puerto Rico, Maryland to Oregon.
We are happy to have worked with Mari and Klaus Kloeppel in Watsonville, California to breed Käthe this past December. The successful mating resulted in a wonderful litter of hovis, all of which are soon to be placed in new homes.
